SOE Alumni Association

The SOE Alumni Association supports SOE’s mission of effectively preparing educators and other education personnel for professional performance in diverse cultural contexts. It serves as a connection for which SOE alumni can give back to their alma mater by sharing their talents, resources, etc. in different SOE events. It further serves as a source for developing alumni pride, spirit, and life-long commitments to the School of Education.

2012 UOG "Big G" Float Artwork Competition Contest

The University of Guam Liberation Day Committee is pleased to announce the details of an art contest that will be the source of inspiration for our float entry this year. The main theme of the 2012 parade has yet to be announced. For the purpose of this contest, however, the objective is to find a float design that will represent the University of Guam while concurrently showcasing Chamorro culture, values and traditions (general themes used in past parades). This contest is open to all entrants who have an affinity to the University.

Winners of the Float Competition
will receive the following cash prizes:
1st Prize $300
2nd Prize $200
3rd Prize $100

Call for Nominations


The SOE Alumni Association is accepting final nomination of officers, namely President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  The call for nominations will close on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.  The alumni election will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. during the monthly IRA meeting at the Guam Aurora Resort Villa and Spa.

Exercise your right to vote for your favorite candidate at the SOE alumni table on March 10, 2012.  Please note that only active SOE alumni members can cast their votes.  SOE Alumni membership forms are available at www.soealumniassociation.blogspot.com and will also be available at the meeting.  For more information, you may e-mail soe.alumni@gmail.com, iraguam1@gmail.com, or mnrivera1@yahoo.com.

1) NEW ITEM! FOREMOST FOODS CELEBRTES UOG’s 60th ANNIVERSARY WITH LIMITED EDITION WATER BOTTLES!
Foremost Foods has launched its limited edition bottled water commemorating the University of Guam's 60th Anniversary. The water bottles feature the University’s 2012 “Big G logo” and are now available for purchase at your favorite convenient stores and select retailers around the island. Foremost Foods will donate part of its UOG bottle sales to the University's capital fund.
“Foremost has been part of our island for more than 60 years and proudly encourages the growth of Guam's only University,” said Ernest Mak, Director of Operations for Foremost Foods.  “Our project objectives are to commemorate UOG’s 60th Anniversary and contribute to fund a 21st century campus for our students.”

Tournament Date: Saturday, April 7th, 2012, Venue: Start Guam Golf Resort, Show Time: 11.30 A.M., Go Time: 12:30 P.M., Format: Two-Man Select Shot Modified Callaway, Registration/Entry Fee Per Player: $100. 5) UOG ALUMNI TEAM WANTED FOR THE XTERRA RACE!
The UOG Alumni Association would like to sponsor a team of UOG Alumni to compete in the Xterra Race on Saturday, March 10th. The race includes: a 1.5K swim at Port Authority Beach, 31K mountain bike from Port Authority Beach to Nimitz - Channel 10 - Leo Palace – Ordot –Nimitz - Port Authority Beach and a 8.2K run Port Authority Beach-navy are behind Veteran’s Cemetery-Port Authority Beach. 6) SAVE THE DATE: JUNE 1, “THE G-FACTOR” UOG ALUMNI MIXER, ALUMNI ARTISTS & PERFORMERS NEEDED!
On June 1, the Office of Alumni Affairs will host a mixer for alumni and friends of the University! The highlight of the event will be a talent showcase and I’m in the process of compiling a list of interested individuals. If you're an alumnus or alumna who wants to feature your works of art, or who wants to sing, dance, or share some other special talent, I want to hear from you! ·         I have created the official University of Guam Alumni Facebook page. There are many exciting activities in store for you this year as we celebrate the University's 60th Anniversary! The Facebook page is just one of the methods the Office of Alumni Affairs will use to keep you informed. To best address the objectives of this group, only UOG alumni are permitted to be part of it and interact with other members. We need this group to grow, so please feel free to send invitations to your fellow alum to join this group. But, please be aware that their inclusion is subject to verification.

FEBRUARY FOCUS: GRADUATE STUDIES, SPONSORED PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH

·          Marine Lab Alumni Presentation – Feb. 10
This Friday UOG Planetarium Coordinator Pam Eastlick will be sharing her story about what she studied at the Marine Lab and how her experiences got her to where she is today.  Her talk will include information about her upcoming sky projects followed by a thorough Q&A, so come prepared with questions for the star lady!  As an added bonus, you can join Pam after POETS at 6:30pm for her Public Show up at the Planetarium! Join us TODAY, Friday, 4pm in the Marine Lab classroom.

·         Subway is our Business Partner for February
Order a Seafood and Crab or Oven Roasted Chicken sub and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the UOG Endowment Capital Campaign. Build the campus of the future with every bite!

Biba the Big G Baseball Team! Next Game – Feb. 19
On February 5, the UOG Team A secured a 15-04 win against ST CORP at the Paseo Field.  The next game for the UOG Big G softball Team A is set for Sunday February 12 at 5 pm, Paseo Field.  Come out cheer on UOG. Softball practice is held every Wednesday and Friday behind the UOG Field house starting at 4:30 pm.  Stop by and see UOG Team A in action.   Softballs, bats, gloves and sun block not included .For more information contact coach/player Mr. Gus Meno at extension 2385. The Micronesian Area Research Center (MARC) of the University of Guam announces its annual honoree dinner to be held Wednesday March 14th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Marriott Resort.   Honorees this year will be:  Dr. Hiro Kurashina, Ms. Faustina Rehuher-Marugg of Palau, and posthumously to Dr. Jane Hainland Underwood.  ITE and Bank Pacific will be recognized for their contributions for their support of MARC.  For more information about MARC or the event contact either Dr. Monique Storie at 735-2150 or Heidi Ballendorf at heidi253@gmail.com
