SOE Alumni Association

The SOE Alumni Association supports SOE’s mission of effectively preparing educators and other education personnel for professional performance in diverse cultural contexts. It serves as a connection for which SOE alumni can give back to their alma mater by sharing their talents, resources, etc. in different SOE events. It further serves as a source for developing alumni pride, spirit, and life-long commitments to the School of Education.

Call for Nominations for UOG Alumni Association

The UOG Alumni Association is accepting nominations for all positions, namely President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The call for nominations will close February 12, 2010. The alumni election will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information, you may e-mail uog.alumni@gmail.com.

SOE Alumni of the Month to be Renamed SOE Alumni of the Quarter & Call for Nominations Extended

Hafa Adai! After much deliberation and requests to extend the due date for the SOE Alumni of the Month, the SOE Alumni Officers have decided to extend the due date for the call for nominations to the end of March, as well as to rename the award to "SOE Alumni of the Quarter." This will allow for a larger pool of members to nominate and select from. We are pleased that we have received several nominations, and we encourage you to nominate a worthy SOE Alumni candidate, if you haven't already. Click here for the nomination form. Keep in mind that the nominees must also be current members of the SOE Alumni Association.

Please note that although the SOE Alumni Officers are not judges for the award, they are ineligible during their time of office. If you nominated any one of the following Officers, we appreciate it, however, please nominate another SOE Alumni member who is worthy of the award.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Island-wide Poster Contest & Michael Jackson Look-a-Like Dance Contest

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Island-wide Poster Contest & Michael Jackson Look-a-Like Dance Contest: The University of Guam School of Education student organization, Association for Childhood Education International (UOG-ACEI) in conjuction with the UOG Student Government Association is sponsoring a Michael Jackson Look-a-Like Dance Contest on January 18 at the Micronesia Mall. The contest will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. Registration is $5.00 at the mall between 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.


The UOG-ACEI is also sponsoring the anuual island-wide poster contest in recognition of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration. The contest theme is Remembering the Dream. It is open to all public, private, and DODEA school children in K-12 grades. The announcement of the winner will be held at the Micronesia Mall on January 18 between 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. The poster display will remain at the mall's center court from January 15 to 21.

The Martin Luther King, Jr., Art Exhibit, entitled, Remember the Dream by Marilyn Malloy Jackson, a UOG Professor, will travel this year to the CNMI. The Art Exhibit will be held at the American Memorial Park Visitor's Center in Saipan.

SOE Alumni of the Month

We are pleased to announce that the SOE Alumni Association will award its first ever SOE Alumni of the Month! Do you know of an exemplary SOE alumni who has made a difference in the community and deserves to be recognized as the SOE Alumni of the Month? If so, please forward your nomination to the SOE Alumni Association by January 22, 2010. Click on the link below to access the nomination form.

Please note that the SOE alumni nominee must be a current member of the SOE Alumni Association. All nominees will be judged on career achievements/highlights by a panel of judges. The judges include Dr. Jose Q. Cruz, Guam Education Policy Board Member, former UOG President, and retired UOG Associate Professor; Rosa Salas Palomo, President of the Pacific Islands Bilingual Bicultural Association, Director of the Guam ESL Certification Plus Project, and retired UOG Assistant Professor; and Zander Refilong, Program Advisor for the Guam ESL Certification Plus Project.
