SOE Alumni Association

The SOE Alumni Association supports SOE’s mission of effectively preparing educators and other education personnel for professional performance in diverse cultural contexts. It serves as a connection for which SOE alumni can give back to their alma mater by sharing their talents, resources, etc. in different SOE events. It further serves as a source for developing alumni pride, spirit, and life-long commitments to the School of Education.

Thanksgiving Donations to Alee Shelter

ACEI officers and members visited Alee Shelter on November 23, 2010 to present children and staff with many boxes of Thanksgiving donations. Alee Shelter protects abused or neglected children. The Thanksgiving donation is one of the many significant civic and community events the UOG-ACEI student organization supports annually.

TEACH GRANT AND YEC INFO SESSION – Dec. 7
The School of Education and the Financial Aid Office host an information session on both the TEACH grant program and the YEC program and how residents may use these grants to fund their educations as they pursue their teaching degrees. The session will be held today at 4:00 p.m. in the Anthony Leon Guerrero Multipurpose Room, SBPA.

Faculty Book Launch – Dec. 9
On Thursday, December 9, 2010, CLASS will sponsor a Book Launch for several recently published faculty a6 6:00 p.m. in the CLASS Professional Development Room, Dean’s Office, HSS 3rd Floor. The launch will include presentations from the faculty including Jason Vest, Helen Thompson, David Atienza, Randall Johnson, and PK Harmon. A reception will follow. The United States Secret Service Virtual Info Session at UOG –Dec. 10
The University of Guam Career Development Office will host a virtual information session and employer presentation by the United States Secret Service (USSS) on the UOG campus on December 10, 2010.  The United States Secret Service is looking to fill positions for special agent, uniformed division officer, special officer, administrative, and professional and technical support positions. Representatives from the US Secret Service will conduct the session and explain the mission, career, and employment process. The sessions will be held on the following dates:

·         Friday, December 10, 2010 – 10am to 12noon and 2:00pm to 4pm
Science Bldg, Room 120

Interested individuals must reserve their seats by emailing their reservations to uogcdo@yahoo.com. Participants must bring their own laptops to participate in this virtual information session.  This session is open to the first 100 participants. TAKE CONSUMER CONFIDENCE SURVEY by Dec. 18
The University of Guam-Pacific Center for Economic Initiatives (UOG-PCEI) is conducting its fourth semi-annual survey to find out how Guam consumers assess current and future business and economic climate on Guam. Voluntary participation is appreciated. You will be asked to complete one survey instrument and will take approximately 5 minutes. The consumer survey consists of 11 questions. Questions are rated on a Likert Scale. In addition, you will be asked questions pertaining to gender, age, ethnicity, household income, household size, and employment. This survey is part of a series of projects designed to begin and maintain updated and reliable data that will be useful for planning by policymakers, businesses and the local community. Planetarium Shows – Dec. 9, 10 and 11
So join us on 9, 10 and 11 December at 6:30 p.m. when we'll present "Sky Legends of the World 18", the show where little kids tell us stories about the sky.  Plan to stay for the 7:00 p.m. show where you'll hear the greatest story ever told.  Every December we have "The Star," the Planetarium Christmas show. "The Star" is a look at what scientists think the Star of Bethlehem might have been.  The show begins with a reading of the Christmas story.  Don't miss this wonderful show!!

UOG 4-H Christmas Workshops for Children 7 - 10
Science, Engineering and Technology (S.E.T.) Dec. 20 - 23 from 9:00am -4:00pm each day. The Workshop is open to children ages 7-10. Limited to 25 students. The cost is $125.

Fisheries Workshop - Dec. 27 - 30 from 9:00am - 4:00pm each day. The Workshop is open to children ages 7-10. Limited to 25 students. The cost is $125.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Western Pacific Coral Institute
The Western Pacific Coral Reef Institute (WPCRI) is a cooperative agreement between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research and the University of Guam (UOG).  The institute’s primary goal is to protect and preserve the nation’s coral reefs through multidisciplinary basic and applied scientific ecosystem research that is directly applicable to management, as well as via training and education.   WPCRI is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships to resident students wishing to study at UOG.  These scholarships will present opportunities to combine sociocultural and traditional ecological knowledge with technical and scientific perspectives that will foster a stronger interest in natural resource management among local indigenous and other minority groups within the region.  WPCRI anticipates issuing 7 scholarships based on a 16-credit semester to five (5) undergraduate and two (2) graduate students to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books in the amount of up to $4,228 for undergraduate and $5,376 for graduate programs based on the availability of funds.   Visit the UOG Financial Aid website at  http://www.uog.edu/financialaid to download the application or go to the Western Pacific Coral Reef Institute Website at http://www.uog.edu/wpcri for more information
