SOE Alumni Association

The SOE Alumni Association supports SOE’s mission of effectively preparing educators and other education personnel for professional performance in diverse cultural contexts. It serves as a connection for which SOE alumni can give back to their alma mater by sharing their talents, resources, etc. in different SOE events. It further serves as a source for developing alumni pride, spirit, and life-long commitments to the School of Education.

UOG Charter Day 2012 a Success!

UOG's Charter Day 2012 was filled with excitement from from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and beyond! Memories to last a lifetime were shared, including activities, displays, CHamoru competitions, dances, performances, food, entertainment, and more! Established in 1952 as the Territorial College of Guam, the institution was renamed the University of Guam in 1968. Thank you for joining us as we celebrated our 44th Charter Day and our 60th year as an institution of higher education! Enjoy the following snapshots taken during this memorable day!

3) LIBERATION DAY FLOAT ARTWORK CONTEST
The University of Guam Liberation Day Committee is pleased to announce the details of an art contest that will be the source of inspiration for our float entry this year. The theme of the 2012 parade is: "Imagine Guam: 68 Years of Progress Through Peace.” The objective of this contest is to find a float design that will depict the official theme while concurrently representing the University of Guam. This contest is open to all entrants who have an affinity to the University. Winners of the Float Competition will receive the following cash prizes: 1st Prize $300, 2nd Prize $200, 3rd Prize $100, Deadline: the contest runs from now through March 30. All contestants must provide their name, email, age, mailing address and phone number. All entries are to be digitally submitted or hand delivered to the President’s Office, Attention: Norman Analista, no later than 12noon March 30. For more information, please contact me.


4) SAVE THE DATE: JUNE 1, “THE G-FACTOR” UOG ALUMNI MIXER, ALUMNI ARTISTS & PERFORMERS NEEDED!
On June 1, the Office of Alumni Affairs will host a mixer for alumni and friends of the University! The highlight of the event will be a talent showcase and I’m in the process of compiling a list of interested individuals. If you're an alumnus or alumna who wants to feature your works of art, or who wants to sing, dance, or share some other special talent, I want to hear from you! McDonald’s Restaurants of Guam celebrates UOG's 60th anniversary by donating a portion of sales of every Double Filet-O-Fish Meal sold during the month of March. This meal will be very popular this month because of the Lenten season. All of the funds raised will go to the University of Guam’s capital fund which will be used solely to construct new facilities on the university’s campus.

·         I have created the official University of Guam Alumni Facebook page. There are many exciting activities in store for you this year as we celebrate the University's 60th Anniversary! The Facebook page is just one of the methods the Office of Alumni Affairs will use to keep you informed. To best address the objectives of this group, only UOG alumni are permitted to be part of it and interact with other members. We need this group to grow, so please feel free to send invitations to your fellow alum to join this group. But, please be aware that their inclusion is subject to verification.

SOE Alumni Update - March 2


·         1) GOVERNOR HONORS UOG’S 60-YEAR MISSION OF HIGHER EDUCATION
·          
·         Governor Eddie Baza Calvo is leading the community in the celebration of the University of Guam’s 60 years of paving the way for higher learning in the western Pacific region. “Education is our first line of defense against poverty. From giving students the opportunity for rewarding careers to the research that provides direction to make our community stronger, UOG and the Tritons are helping to set the pace for a stronger future,” Governor Calvo said. “It’s the premier university in the region and it’s the foundation of knowledge for so many of the leaders and professionals who make Guam what it is today.” UOG President Dr. Robert Underwood, the Board of Regents, administration, faculty, staff and students joined Governor Calvo at Adelup to proclaim March 13, 2012 in honor of the institution’s 44th Charter Day and Charter Week Ceremonies set for March 11 through 17, 2012.

3)SCHOOL OF EDUCATION ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS COMING SOON!
 
The SOE Alumni Association is accepting final nomination of officers, namely President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  The call for nominations will close on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.  The alumni election will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. during the monthly IRA meeting at the Guam Aurora Resort Villa and Spa.

UNIVERSITY THEATRE Presents NOH WAY and I FAMALAO’AN NI MANMESNGON - March 1 -3
NOH WAY, Diane Isis Thurber’s short play in the style of Japanese Noh Theater that explores the lives of five local teenage girls will be presented March 1-3 at 7 p.m. followed at 8 p.m. by I FAMALAO’AN NI MANMESNGON (THE WOMEN WHO ENDURE) a series of original monologues by local writers that address issues affecting women in our island community. Performances will be held in the Fine Arts Theatre. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the call box on the night of each performance or from Nicky in CFA Office contact her at 735-2700. Join us as we raise funds and awareness to end violence against women and girls!
